Talking about calendar dates in Spanish is actually pretty easy for native English speakers, as there are still seven days of the week, twelve months in a year, and four seasons in a year.
Days of the Week
lunes – Monday
martes – Tuesday
miércoles – Wednesday
jueves – Thursday
viernes – Friday
sábado – Saturday
domingo – Sunday
Days of the week are not always capitalized when used in a sentence. Usually they are only capitalized if they are the first word in the sentence, though there are some exceptions, such as when they form part of a proper noun. Por ejemplos, “Hoy es domingo.” (Today is Sunday.); “Sábado es mi día favorito.” (Saturday is my favorite day). Use a definite article with the name of a day of the week to say that you do something on those days. Por ejemplo, “Voy al gimnasio los miércoles.” (I go to the gym on Wednesdays.)
Months of the Year
enero – January
febrero – February
marzo – March
abril – April
mayo – May
junio – June
julio – July
agosto – August
septiembre – September
octubre – October
noviembre – November
diciembre – December
As with days of the week, months of the year are not always capitalized in Spanish.
Seasons of the Year
invierno – winter
primavera – spring
verano – summer
otoño – autumn, fall
How to ask for the date in Spanish
¿Cuál es la fecha de hoy? – What is today’s date?
Saying the Date in Spanish
Precede the cardinal number corresponding to the day of the current month, followed by de, and then the name of the month. You can add the year, said simply as its number, to the end if you’d like.
Por ejemplos,
Hoy es jueves, el veinticuatro de agosto.
Hoy es jueves, el veinticuatro de agosto dos mil veintitrés.
Hoy es jueves, el 24 dos mil veintitrés.
All three of those ways are fine.
